Qualitative Data Analysis in NVivo

Phase 1. Data familiarization

  • This is the first stage where you transcribe recorded interviews and verify the accuracy of your transcription.
  • If you are working with interview transcripts, listen to the audio files, and check if the opinions/discussions of your interviewees are well transcribed.
  • Note your first impression of the data by highlighting phrases or sentences that are distinct.
  • Note ideas, recurrent phrases, and/or use a mind mapping tool (e.g., XMind) to map out your first impression of the data.
