What's a Literature Review?

According to Churchill Livingstone's Dictionary of Nursing, a Literature Review is "A thorough and comprehensive examination of the papers relevant to a topic. Research methods and results are analysed and presented critically. The literature review should state how the search was undertaken, i.e. the bibliographical databases used."
