Creating Durable Links

Using the Permalink to create a durable link

1) Run a search in Omni 

2) Click on the permalink Screenshot of permalink icon icon  

3) Click on the COPY THE PERMALINK TO CLIPBOARD"  link.

4) Paste the URL.

Making Links Work from Off-Campus

If you want a link to be accessible off campus, your URL will need an EZproxy prefix for Lakehead user authentication.

Please use the Proxied URL Generator below to add the necessary prefix to your URL.

Find the Database-Supplied Durable Link

Many library publishers/vendors provide durable links. After identifying a particular article in a list of results, look for one of the following on the site:

  • Durable URL
  • Persistent link
  • Stable URL
  • Permalink
  • Jumpstart

Copy and Paste the URL into a document or course management page.

Below are specific instructions for some of our major databases and database providers:


 

ProQuest logo

ProQuest is a database povider for many of the individual databases.  ProQuest databases include: ABI/INFORM, Canadian Newsstand Major Dailies, CBCA Complete, ERIC, International Index to Music Periodicals, MLA International, National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) Abstracts Database,  Periodicals Archive Online, Philospher's Index, PILOTS, ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health, ProQuest Sociology, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, Social Services Abstracts,  and Sociological Abstracts

 

1) Run a search and click on the Citation/Abstract link for the article you are linking to.

2) Scroll down the article record to "Document URL" and copy the complete URL provided.

 


 

Ebsco logo   

Ebsco Databases include: the Search it All, Academic Search Premier, America: History & Life with Full Text, Art Full Text, Education Source,  and Historical Abstracts with Full Text.

1) Click on the desired article title in your search results to pull up the full article record.

2) Click on the "Permalink" option located on the far right. Copy the URL provided.

3) If you would like to make the URL accessible for off-campus access, use the Proxied URL Generator found on the left.

 


 

  JSTOR logo

One of the more commonly used databases is JSTOR.

1) Click on the desired article title in your search results to pull up the full article record.

2) Copy the "Stable URL" link provided near the top of the page.

Ovid logo

Ovid databases include: Books @ Ovid, Journals @ Ovid

1) For articles - click on the Ovid Full Text link next to your article (please note not every article in Ovid will have that link).

    For e-books - click on the title of the book title you want and then click on the Email Jumpstart link.

2) Click on the Email Jumpstart link.

3) Copy and Paste the URL.
