How to use Lakehead University's Libraries

Services You Can Use

What you Need to Know

UNDER 17

  • If you are under 17, you unfortunately cannot take materials out of the library. You can however browse and use the library's physical collection (books, documents, etc.) within the library.
  • You can browse and obtain the library's open access articles through the Lakehead Library Website

OVER 17

  • If you are 17 years of age or older you can become a community borrower. This means you will be able to take out books (maximum 10).
  • To become a community borrower, you have to provide the library with valid government-issued ID and proof of address.

To use the computers, you will need to request Visitor Computer Access. This can be done at the Library Service Desk, located to the left when you enter the Chancellor Paterson Library.

Process

  1. Ask staff at the desk for visitor computer access
  2. They will have you fill out this form
  3. They will ask for a piece of photo ID and proof of address
  4. They will then give you a piece of paper with a username and password

Expiry Date: The username and password you receive will remain valid until the end of the day the following Sunday.
For Example: If you get it on Friday (October 14th), it will expire on Sunday (October 16th). If you want to use the computers again on Monday (October 17th), you will need to reapply for visitor computer access.

When ON CAMPUS, you will have access to all the articles, journals, e-books and databases the Lakehead Library offers. Unfortunately, you will not be able to access all of our services when you are OFF CAMPUS. When searching for articles off campus, we recommend selecting the open access filter in order to look at the Free Databases under A-Z Databases.
