myReadings

A guide for instructors, to the MyReadings course reserves tool.

What is myReadings?

myReadings is a tool from the library which facilitates the sharing of course readings and materials with students. myReadings is embedded into myCourselink, and the resources you choose may be items from the library, such as books or articles, or online content such as videos and websites.

If you are new to myReadings, you are welcome to submit our course reserve form with your reading list. A library staff member will be happy to assist you in adding myReadings to your myCourselink site.

If you would like to begin creating a reading list on your own, follow the 4 steps below:

Why use MyReadings?

myReadings is far more dynamic than simply having .pdfs or links to electronic articles in your myCourseLink site.

Benefits for instructors include:

  • Easy addition of resources to your reading lists for students - including library books and articles, and online content.
  • Library staff are able to support access to resources, and prepare physical items to be on reserve for your courses.
  • Discussion area, which allows students to post comments about readings.
  • Ability to capture citations with the Cite It extension for your browser, which acts much like Zotero, and from which citations can be transferred to myReadings.
  • Analytics which allow you to view the engagement of your students with course materials. For example, seeing how many students have viewed, or "liked", or marked a reading as "done".
  • Advanced usage reports, that allow you to view usage of the citations on your reading lists.
