Open Access Support at Lakehead

APC Discounts

Through licences with CRKN, Lakehead is able to offer discounts to APCs (Article Processing Charges) with the following publishers:

  • American Chemical Society - flat $250 US discount upon submission of manuscript. Authors must identify their institutional affiliation in order to qualify for the discount
  • Cambridge University Press - 20% discount on APCs for Lakehead-affiliated authors.  APC discount is applied upon submission of manuscript. Authors must identify their institutional affiliation in order to qualify for the discount.
  • Canadian Science Publishing (formerly NRC Research Press) - offers a reduced open access charge to Lakehead researchers who wish to make their published articles open access.  The regular fee for the OpenArticle option will be reduced from $3000 per article to $1500 per article.
  • Elsevier ScienceDirect - For the term of 2021- 2023, authors affiliated with CRKN members participating in the Elsevier ScienceDirect license will be granted a 20% discount on Elsevier’s APCs for both hybrid and gold OA journals. Cell Press, Lancet, and some other society-owned journals will be excluded.
  • Sage - Starting on January 1, 2021, all authors affiliated with CRKN institutions that are participating in the CRKN-SAGE Premier Open Access agreement will be able to publish articles in SAGE Choice journals under an open access license with no associated Article Processing Charge (APC).
  • Taylor and Francis - 25% discount on APCs for all CRKN-affiliated authors in T&F Open Select journals.  The discount will be automatically applied using T&F's automated submission profile when the author identifies their affiliation to Lakehead University and selects Open Access as the publishing model.
