Creating Citations

A citation allows for two things:

  • Credit is given to the original author/creator of the source
  • A proper citation makes it easier for someone else to locate the source you used 

A citation may include some of the following:

*Please note that proper citation depends on the type of resource (book vs article) and the citation style you are using ( APA vs MLA).

  • DOI
  • ISBN
  • Title

  • Title of Journal, Newspaper or Magazine

  • The date you accessed the material

Managing Citation Information

There are many ways you can keep track of your citations:

  • Simply keep the information in a document (Word/Google Docs, Excel/Sheets)
  • Use a citation manager tool like Zotero
  • When using citations from a citation manger or website, please double check to make sure that the citations are correct both in information and in style
