The OMNI system used at Lakehead is part of a collaboration with other Ontario Council of University Libraries, and therefore you have access to resources across Ontario when you use OMNI.
Opportunities you have with OMNI include:
On the library's website, click the Advanced Search link. If you are searching specifically for books, change the Material Type drop-down on the right, to Books and eBooks.
Enter keywords and click on Search. If you know an exact title that you are looking for, you can change Any Field on the left to Title, and enter your exact book title, for a more accurate search.
When your search results are displayed, you can filter your results with the options on the left side.
Available Online = filter your results to show ebooks only
Available in Lakehead Library = filter your results to show print and ebooks available at Lakehead.
Lakehead Library = displays books by location, e.g. the Chancellor Paterson Library in Thunder Bay, or the Harvie Legacy Library at Orillia University Avenue.
Click on a book that you want to borrow. In the middle of the book record page, view the library location of this book.
You will need to sign into your account to request pickup. Click on the yellow or orange field, which might say Get it from Another Library or have a Sign In link, and then enter your Lakehead University credentials (your Lakehead email username and password).
After you click Request, or Get it From Another Library, the screen will vary depending on if you are looking at a Lakehead-owned print book, or a print book owned by another Ontario University.
The screenshot below is what you will see if you are viewing a book owned by another Ontario University. The Lakehead library desks you can select for pickup are: Chancellor Paterson Library (Thunder Bay); Thunder Bay Education Library; Law Library (Thunder Bay, Law Users only) and in Orillia, the Orillia Harvie Legacy Library (University Avenue), and the Orillia Education Library (downtown Orillia at Heritage Place).
Using the form below, you can:
a) ask for the print book to be mailed to the most convenient Lakehead library desk for you, for pickup (toggle the Preferred Lakehead Pickup field shown below).
b) ask for the print book to be mailed to the most convenient University library in Ontario for pickup (toggle the Preferred Pickup University field shown below, and then also choose the best library at that University).
c) ask for an except from the print book to be scanned and emailed to you (click the checkbox for I only need a specific chapter or pages, and then indicate lower on the form what chapter / page range you need). Please keep in mind that only an excerpt from a book can be delivered to you. It is against copyright law to scan an entire book.
