Finding the right match for your article can be confusing and overwhelming.  Here are some tools to help:

Tips (from Taylor & Francis publishers)

Directories:

Cabell's Scholarly Analytics : Cabell's Whitelist includes journal information & metrics and publication data such as Average paper length, Acceptance rate and Peer review style.  Its list of questionable journals is curated by a Review Board and based on clear criteria.

DOAJ - Directory of Open Access Journals : Includes APC charges

JournalGuide : Choose the tab for Category or Journal title - JournalGuide uses a Verified indicator to designate trusted and legitimate journals.

These services let you submit your article title and abstract and suggest possible journal matches. Use with caution and do further research on matches that look promising to you.

Other tools

  • Sherpa-Romeo - database of self-archiving policies ; will tell you how long after publication you must wait to upload an open access version of your article and which article versions you can upload (preprint vs. postprint vs. publisher's version)
  • SPARC Author addendum (Canadian version) - addendum to a publisher contract or Copyright Transfer Agreement that, if agreed to by publisher, allows the author to retain certain rights for their article
  • APC discounts for Lakehead authors:  Through licences with CRKN, Lakehead is able to offer discounts to APCs (Article Processing Charges) with the following publishers:
    • Cambridge Journals Online:  Lakehead researchers are eligible for a 20% discount on Article Processing Charges (APC). All Gold OA or Hybrid OA Cambridge journals are eligible.  The discount is applied when an author submits the article to RightsLink and selects institutional affiliation.
    • ​​​​​​​Canadian Science Publishing (formerly NRC Research) - offers a reduced open access charge to Lakehead researchers who wish to make their published articles open access.  The regular fee for the OpenArticle option will be reduced from $3000 per article to $1500 per article.
    • Sage - authors affiliated with Lakehead University pay no APC charges for over 900 Sage Choice journals and get a 40% discount on APCs on Sage gold open access journals.  These discounts are applied when authors submit their manuscripts using the SAGE Choice open access model and include their affiliation to Lakehead University.
    • Taylor & Francis - Lakehead researchers receive a 25% discount on APC charges for T&F Open Select Journals.
