Open Access & Scholarly Communications

open access, ojs, Knowledge Commons etc. - research services for faculty

A quick OJS intro

Open Journal Systems

Lakehead University Library hosts an implementation of Open Journal Systems, open source software that manages and publishes online journals.  This software is available to any Lakehead faculty or staff member involved in the editing of an online journal.  The software is installed on a server here at Lakehead and journal editors can configure and customize it to their needs.  The system helps manage submissions, the review process, article indexing and online publication.

Hosted journals can be either open access or use a subscription model with a delayed open access component.  Editors can choose specific reading tools and, if they wish, can open articles for readers' comments.

At the end of 2013, just over 7,000 e-journals world-wide were using OJS.

The Library can help you get started - if you would like to know more, please contact Valerie Gibbons (807-343-8010 Ext. 8165) or Jason Zou (807-343-8010 Ext. 8251) for more information.
