While OMNI can be used to find newspaper articles, the Lakehead Library has other databases that are more suited to finding news stories - most are accessible from the library's list of newspaper databases:

  • Canadian Newsstream Collection - This database offers unparalleled access to the full text of over 400 Canadian news sources from Canada's leading publishers. This full text database includes the complete available electronic backfile for most newspapers, providing full access to the articles, columns, editorials and features published in each. Most titles are updated daily and some backfiles date as far back as the late 1970s.

For U.S. and international news, try NexisUni Plus which can be found on this page.

  • On the NexisUni homepage, choose Advanced Search under the main search box.
  • On the Advanced Search page, choose the News tab.
  • After you enter keywords and run a search, on your results page, there are filters to limit by geographical location etc.

It is also possible to search news sources via Lexis Advance Quicklaw Plus (For all students) , which can be found on this library page.

One way to navigate to news is to start with the Browse button at the top left of the Lexis homescreen:

And then choose SOURCES  -->  select a country/region --> select "Category" --> select News
