Geology

As a Lakehead student, you have access to print books from the Lakehead libraries in Orillia and in Thunder Bay (if you need a book transferred from one library to another for pickup, see requesting information), and from most other Ontario universities via resource sharing within the OMNI search system (will work the same as for Lakehead books).

You also have access to a great number of electronic books, accessible via the OMNI search system on our library homepage.

The Lakehead Library Videos and Tutorials page includes videos on using OMNI to find both print and electronic books.

When you are in the OMNI Advanced Search area, you can use the right side "Material Type" filter to ask to see only Books & eBooks.

The search domains along the top allow you to choose what library systems to search. Lakehead Library & Omni Libraries includes print and electronic books at Lakehead, and also print books at 16 Ontario partner libraries; Lakehead Library includes print and electronic books at Lakehead; Articles and more is any electronic resources - primarily electronic journal articles, but Lakehead ebooks can be found using this domain.

The sample search above is asking our OMNI system the following:

a) search Lakehead resources and the OMNI partner libraries across Ontario

b) only show book or ebook results (i.e. no articles)

c) only show me books where the phrases "plate tectonics" and "north america" appear on the information pages for that book - i.e. in the book title or table of contents or book summary etc.
