Education Library Faculty/Contract Lecturer Guide

Linking Journal Articles in your Online Course

Usually when we want to save or share a URL we think of two simple words: copy and paste. However, linking to the Library's subscription-based materials isn't always so simple.

Some of the Library's online content produces URLs that change from session to session, meaning that the URL found in the address bar of your web browser may only work for a short time.

Luckily there are solutions that will allow you to create durable and shareable links to the Library's electronic materials.  Creating Durable Links to the Library's Electronic Materials Guide  shows you how to turn an unreliable URL into a static one that will work anywhere (including off-campus) and anytime.

If you require assistance in creating durable links, contact the Education Librarian at 807-343-8719 or the Research/Help Desk at 807-343-8302.

Embedding the Library & Creating Library Course Pages

Embed the library in your course site:  Links to library databases, subject guides, tutorials and other relevant resources and services can be added to your Desire2Learn course site.

Request a Course Guide:  A course guide can be created that is specific to your course.  A guide can feature a list of the best research resources and search tips for the students in your class.  Your course guide will be linked within your D2L course and will be featured as a tab on the existing Education library subject guide.

For more information on either embedding library links or creating a course page contact Gisella Scalese, Education Librarian by phone 807-343-8719 or email gscalese@lakeheadu.ca
