Never give a saga an even break! Blazing Saddles is an iconoclastic, not-politically-correct parody; one of the 1970s most successful and popular films. Every clichéd element from every Western ever made is turned upside down and inside out, while retaining all the familiar caricatures--eh, characters--of the genre: a dance-hall girl, a gunslinger, a sheriff, and a town full of pure folk. Mel Brooks redefined film comedy, and proved that even sophomoric, scatological humor could be used to ridicule prejudice, injustice, and apathy.

Don't Panic. For hardcore fans of Douglas Adams's magnum opus, "The Hitchhiker Trilogy", (which now has 5 parts) these words provide a great comfort. The story has been through many adaptations: its first appearance was as a radio play which was later turned into a novel, which was later turned into a TV series, which was later turned into this movie right here. Hardcore fans know not to panic about the differences between these various versions because they know that each was perpetrated by Adams himself. The film is no different (in that it is different). Adams collaborated on the screenplay and made numerous changes to the narrative himself including the addition of a character called Humma Kavula (played by John Malkovich). The basics of the story remains the same, with Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman) awaking one morning to discover that his house is about to be bulldozed and his best friend is an alien. Oh, and the Earth itself is about to be destroyed to make way for an intergalactic highway. Dent escapes utter annihilation with the help of the aforementioned friend, Ford Prefect, by hitchhiking across the galaxy. Dent and Ford's intergalactic thumbing leads them into a plot by the President of the galaxy, Zaphod Beeblebrox (Sam Rockwell) to uncover the question or the answer to the meaning of the universe both of which are related to the number 42. Don't panic. And be sure you know where your towel is.
